Torres Truffle Chips Review

Torres Selecta Black Truffle Chips – S$2.95 (40g)

  • 125g version for S$6.95 also available

Bag itself contains a lot of air, as can be seen from the puffed up looks of the packaging, but has sufficient portions of chips for 1 serving.

What is extremely notable is the ingredients used to make this chips. It only uses 5:
Potatoes, sunflower oil, salt, dehydrated black summer truffle (T. aestivum Vitt.) and truffle aroma.

Chips itself are sliced very thinly – making for a nice crisp.

As for the taste, it really depends on personal preferences for Truffle Oil. While the chips had good crisp, eating one felt like I was licking a thin layer of truffle oil, with a very distinct flavor of the oil, with an almost sickly oily texture to boot. Considering the popularity of the oil, it is without a doubt a flavor that some might like.

Rating for Torres Black Truffle Chips

I rate food based on how far I am willing to travel, as well as whether I think the price I paid for it justifies it. You can read more about why here.

Personally, I wouldn’t be paying attention to this anymore, but if this is stocked up in your local grocery store, you can consider trying it.

Of course, it could be personal bias against the truffle oil, but $3 for a small bag of chips is in my opinion below the value I should be getting.

But I’m just a fat boi… What do other people think?

Like what do I know the other people all like it so much.

ChipReview gives it a 4/5 (lipsmacking), impressed with the truffle flavor but hoped for more in terms of the actual potato chip.

TheForkingTruth seemed to like it, but only at the rate of 3 chips every time he ate over a period of a week.

FoodSchmooze seem to really like it, with the title post being “World’s Most Extraordinary Potato Chips”.
